two question for the USBoot on USB hard disk......

user offline
Hi,gerb
Firstly, thanks for your software and your hard work for us.......you are great.......

I'm Chinese, my english is not very good and hope you can understand what I say.......
Below is my questions.

Question 1, the pagefile on USB hard disk
I had installed USBoot and it copied all files on the fix hard disk to USB hard disk, it's running good so far. My laptop is DELL insprion1501,the system is Windows XP SP3. But when I removed the fix hard disk from my laptop and boot from the USB hard disk, it always says"no pagefiles and system creat one......." So, I had created it and ran the EWF and rebooted laptop, but the notice had showed again, I had created and rebooted........again and again....... But it's showing till now........
Please help me, thanks.

Question 2, about some software install and file copy delet etc......
When I had changed some setting or copied(deleted) some files and installed(uninstalled) some new software, if I did not run EWF, after reboot, it was not changed anything ....... except I run the EWF........
is there some easy way for this?
Please let me know, thanks.

Any details if you want, pls let me know.
Best Regards,
Jimmy Li

Hi Jimmy,

Try search on pagefile in this forum. I been there before on the pagefile issue. You may try on using usboot phase-0 option. This might help but there may be a small bug during shut down. After you click shutdown, all thing will shut down but the power may not down. You may have to press and hold the power button.

On the question number 2, I not fully understand.

Hi Big_eyes

Thanks for your reply......

I think that I found the file about the pagefile, and will try to do it again.

P.s. I had already sized the pagefile within 512MB, when I had installed the software.......

About question 2

Um, I mean if I had did some changes on usb system and reboot it. After reboot, nothing happened. But, when I did some changes and click the save.bat in the EWF folder, then it restarted by the save.bat automatically. The change(s) could be saved.
The change is like copy file(s) or delete, install software or remove and antivirus updata etc......

Hope this can help you to understand me.mrgreen

Best regards,

Jimmy Li

Hi Jimmy.

I think you can go to "properties" on mi pc menĂș when you right click on it or System in control panel, go to advanced options, search for pagefile or virtual memory and disable on every unit letter that you can see.

i dont understand your second question but, if you are wondering what is going on after running your save.bat file, is necessary to know what is in it, open it with notepad or simple text editor copy and paste here.

In case it does install of ewf filter, you dont really notice performance changes, it does help to protect your flash drive from mĂșltiple reads/writes from windows killing it.

One more comment, if you have more than 2GB of memory, you can use a ramdrive tool to send there your pagefile or temp folder and make your winusb little faster, i cant remember the name of the util but it is easy to use on any winusb (windows on usb). Such tool does the same as this: http://www.superspeed.com/desktop/supercache.php but is free and light, only is necesary to install, config and do a folder delete to free space (wich is almost nothing).

I have runing windows from USB (first on 1GB flash drive), then doing searchs for long time i found the utility i have said before, for about 4 months is running on 16 GB flash drive with two partitions, the second one not visible from "normal windows".

Is possible to share that info later, i read diferent forums, one of them i think is called bootland, that helped me to do a search on google for ramdrive utilities, one fits right.

I have it somewhere, i'll upload it and share as free as it is, protected by GPL license variation.
