[2.10] Boot process gets stuck after displaying welcome screen

Hi all,
Trying out USBoot for the first time today. I tried to put my clean XP (no mods, nLite etc, just updates) (from virtualbox) onto my external USB HDD (WD Elements). Everything went of well and I'm able to boot from it in the real machine, but it gets stuck up at the welcome screen - when it shows the windows logo with the blue background.
I tried booting in safe mode, and with different HALs, but the same thing happens all the time. Any ideas what could be wrong or how to proceed further to get more information?
